MOH confirms women with COVID-19 did stop on trip

The Ministry of Health says the two latest confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand did have contact with someone after getting lost on their drive from Auckland to Wellington.

The pair, who are from the same family, were given granted permission to leave quarantine to travel between Auckland and Wellington to see their dying parent.

Upon leaving the Novotel in a private vehicle provided by friends, the women got lost on the Auckland motorway system, says the Ministry of Health.

"On realising this they phoned the same friends who supplied the vehicle, who met and guided them to the correct motorway so they could go in the right direction.

"As part of this the pair were in limited physical contact with the two friends for about five minutes."

These two people have been contacted by local health authorities for a health check, says the Ministry.

"Both had already had a test for COVID-19 once they heard of the positive results and are in self isolation."

In addition, health authorities have been informed of instances where friends have made contactless deliveries of food or care packages to the women while they have been in self-isolation in recent days.

"These packages were contactless deliveries and the friends who have delivered the packages have taken all appropriate precautions to maintain physical distance. As such there is no risk to the community from these interactions.

"It's important to remember that the two women were distressed at the time by the sudden death of their family member.

"It is not uncommon for information and details to evolve, including details being missed during case interviews and contact tracing where there is heightened emotion, intense grief and stress.

"The information was gathered as part of a second interview conducted by the local public health unit on Tuesday evening and subsequent interviews on Wednesday.

"This information was communicated to the Ministry of Health on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 17."

Now that Chairwoman Adhern has brought in the military, like all good Communist regimes do, does it mean our newly appointed, highly paid ex Police Commissioner, Coronovirus Taskforce Commander will be getting the chop? Damn well should.

excuses

this article is full of excuses from MOH.During lockdown a family friend had a very ill relation in hospital who subsequently died.No one was allowed to go to visit or attend a funeral.Yet some one from UK under quarantine was allowed out without a release test. All patients released from hospital get a release check/

No excuses...

No doubt they stopped for a pee somewhere on the way too, if not for food. Can't get over their sense of entitlement that they could do this. No excuses for MOH nor for these two, nor for the bulls...t we've read.

I think it has been well established now that the people on the ground at the Hotel 'stuffed up' bleating on about it will not fix it, perhaps the military should have been 'in charge' from the beginning, Winston Peters certainly thought so, to call it a Communist action is very improper, obviously the PM has lost faith in those at the Hotels to do their job so by involving a Military person in charge will make sure that processes are carried out properly and efficiently from now on. This and other problems have been caused by people not doing their respective jobs properly as instructed, they are the ones who should be at least reprimanded or perhaps lose their jobs, in everyday life we all make mistakes, fixing those mistakes is the important thing now and ensuring they dont happen again.

The MOH is in charge of the DHB's.........that pretty much says it all.

The Car

I wonder if the car gets fully . . . whatever they do . . . before being returned to the rightful owners or if they just drive around with the virus onboard unknowingly picking up potential victims.

The whole country shares your concern. This is just so bad it beggars belief. Todd Muller (in Parliament) called for the sacking of the Health Minister and I think I agree with him on this. Jacinda must be fuming. The important thing is that lessons must be learned. Border closure has to MEAN border closure. I think ALL passengers bound for NZ should be tested within 24 hours of their travel, and if the airline can't guarantee that (no certificate) then don't carry them. And ALL passengers should be quarantined for 7 days on arrival and tested again before they are released. As long as this pandemic is still uncontrolled overseas, we need to be really strict with our borders.

There is no "h" in the PM's surname. I'm not sure that "Chairwoman" is fair, but I respect your right to your opinion. If you have ever lived under a Communist regime (I spent some time in East Germany before the wall came down), I think you would realize that our current coalition is a long way from that. At least we get the chance to change it and we have had worse PMs than Jacinda Ardern.

Leadership? I thought not.

Joke So Minister of Beaches and Bikes doesnt resign!!! PM has no faith in MOH so calls inthe Military. Will nobody be held accountable for all this bullshit/untruths/lies/incompetence??

The virus is believed to live on the kind of surfaces found in a car for anything from 3 - 7 days. But if it was your car, what's the first thing you'd do when it was returned to you? Yep, Dettol or Glen20 spray...

There cannot be enough vaccine because no vaccine is available yet. You are right about a string of incompetence and slackness but people ARE being held accountable for it. Ashley Blumfeld, who has been one of the heroes of the whole Covid saga, has taken some responsibility (I don't think he should have) and received a reprimand. (I'd give him a knighthood...) So, the guilty are being found and some of the innocent are being caught in the same net. Meanwhile, Winston is pushing for MORE border traffic, and the Health Minister gets to go mountain biking. We can only hope the measures being taken are enough to stop a "second wave". I still have faith in the common sense of the average Kiwi.
