Minister's first TV appearance

Tauranga MP Simon Bridges made his first national television appearance since being made the Government's youngest Minister at the age of 35.

Simon appeared on the TV3 programme The Nation, which aired on Saturday, where he spoke about his life and his goals for the future.

Simon Bridges is the Government's youngest Minister.

The Nation also spoke to people on the street to get their thoughts about Simon and his wife Natalie, who have been described as 'the royalty of Tauranga.”

On The Nation, Simon admitted he is ambitious.

'I would say and I think it's true, many of my colleagues say I am ambitious.

'I don't shy away from that.”

Simon has taken over the Consumer Affair portfolio and is the Associate Minister of Transport following a re-shuffle of the Government's portfolios after the resignation of Nick Smith.

Simon is a former crown prosecutor and says politics was the next step in his career.

'I've worked in a big city law firm. I took a pay cut to go and work as a prosecutor and I did that because of a deeply held sense of service which comes from my parents.

'Court work was good and I enjoyed that, but politics was something where I could give vent to on a much bigger scene.”
