Mainstreet Tauranga is calling on local hospitality businesses to jump on board a nationwide initiative providing support amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

SOS CAFE is set up so people can buy vouchers to cafes, bars and restaurants to redeem when the lockdown is over.

A statement issued by Mainstreet Tauranga says a number of local hospitality businesses have already registered.

'This looks like a great 'pay it forward' initiative and we wanted to ensure all of our hospitality sector was aware of it.

'Our thoughts remain focussed on our beloved city centre and the businesses in it. We will continue to bring you updates on any matters we see of value to you.”

However I won't be joining as I just renewed my Subscription to the Listener and Australian Women's Weekly and I won't be getting my money back from Bauer Media.

Sounds good until a business goes under and all vouchers and credit are deemed void
