Motorists travelling along State Highway 29, in the Lower Kaimai area, can expect delays as the Tauranga-bound lane at Ruahihi is closed.
The NZTA says the lane will be closed for several hours.
The police dive squad has arrived on scene where a vehicle went into the Wairoa River last night, says a reporter at the scene.
'Traffic will be down to a single lane with stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions in place," says NZTA.
'Please take extra care and expect delays. Motorists are encouraged to delay unnecessary travel, where possible.
