The New Zealand Transport Agency are advising motorists that State Highway 25 is closed at the intersection with Hikuai Settlement Road due to flooding.

Acting Waikato system manager Rob Campbell says the heavy rainfall over the Coromandel Peninsula in the past 24 hours, combined with the incoming tide, has resulted in significant flooding in the area of Hikuai Settlement Road.

'Please delay unnecessary travel where possible. Those who are unable to delay their travel will need to use alternative routes.”

Rob says water levels could continue to rise with further rain and the incoming tide, and encouraged motorists to stay alert.

'Stay safe, watch for surface flooding, slips and fallen trees and branches, and check your intended travel route for closures, hazards or delays on the Transport Agency's Journey Planner website before you leave.

'The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience.”
