Motorists travelling through the Karangahake Gorge along State Highway 2 will be affected by a full road closure for maintenance this week.

The New Zealand Transport Agency says the full road closure is planned from 8pm to 5am on both Monday June 17 and Tuesday June 18.

'Cordons will be in place between the Paeroa urban boundary and the Waihi urban boundary for essential road maintenance works.

Southern Detour: SH2 – Waihi to Tauranga, SH29, SH24, SH27 – Matamata to Tatuanui, SH26 – Tatuanui to Paeroa, and vice versa.

Northern Detour: SH25 – Waihi to Hikuai, SH25A, SH26 – Kopu to Paeroa, and vice versa.
