Preschool keeps cool in summer

Snow in warm temperatures may be something people joke about, but Village Preschool in Bethlehem made it a reality.

Marion Topping says the preschool trucked in snow as part of a holiday programme fun day so children could enjoy exploring the substance.

She says for some children it was a completely new experience given they had never visited snow.

'For others it gave them the opportunity to show off their ‘snow skills' on snowboards and sleds of all kinds, making snowmen and having snowball fights.”

Village Preschool also celebrated the Chinese New Year at the start of the week, with the help of some Chinese friends and families.

Snowmen making was a popular choice on the day snow arrived.

'Our classroom was decorated with red lanterns, traditional Chinese decorations and even a ceremonial dragon as it is the year of the water dragon.

'The children enjoyed the opportunity of preparing, cooking and the eating a variety of traditional Chinese food and delicacies.”

The school is also preparing for the official open day of its newly renovated playground.

Marion says they renovated the playground over the Christmas holidays and will be hosting an opening day in late February.

She says more details about this will be available in The Weekend Sun.
