A section of State Highway 29 will closed this morning following a crash on the Matamata side of the Kaimai Range.

NZTA says the highway, east of SH28, will be closed in both directions.

"Due to a crash SH29, East of SH28 in both directions, will be closed for vehicle recovery.

"This closure will last about 1 hour. Avoid the area or delay your journey if possible."

A police spoksperson says they received a report of a truck and trailer going off the road at the intersection of SH29 and SH28 at around 4.50am.

"The truck was blocking one lane.

"Traffic control is in place and there was no reported injuries."

Motorists are being advised to use either SH28, SH36, SH5 or SH2 as alternative routes until the road is re-opened.

SLOW DOWN TRUCKIES!!!

Posted on 10-06-2019 09:52 | By Bruja

I have always tried not to 'dump on' truckies as for the main part they are just trying to do a job BUT when I take my twice-weekly (roughly) trips from Omokoroa to Tauranga and return, (which everyone knows is a nightmare piece of highway) trucks and truck and trailer units come thundering towards me at a terrifying rate. No allowance for anything going wrong. Even on Thursday last when it was absolutely bucketing down, wet and flooded roads, shocking visibility etc etc, STILL they scream along at 100k plus. SLOW DOWN!!! :(
