Great progress on SH2 roadworks, says NZTA

The New Zealand Transport Agency are advising motorists of the great progress made by contractors on the works that started on Monday, May 20 along SH2 Takitimu Drive northbound.

Bay of Plenty System Manager Rob Campbell says the NZTA acknowledge that the road reconstruction work has been disruptive and caused some long delays during peak hour traffic.

'The contractors have worked really hard and made great progress in the last 48 hours. The lane we're rebuilding is complex and needs to be stronger than average because it primarily supports heavy traffic to the port.

'Weather-permitting we expect the most complicated section of reconstruction work to be finished by early next week.”

'We should then be able to have both lanes open during the daytime, which means there will be fewer delays for the remaining work,” says Rob.

The New Zealand Transport Agency thanks commuters, local businesses and the wider community for their patience.

I drove past just after 3 pm Wednesday afternoon and absolutely not one sign of any work being done, all machines sitting idle and no sign of any people at all
