Sticking with tradition

Increasingly, we New Zealanders are realising what a massive contribution men and women of the New Zealand and Australian Armed Forces have through many wars.

They worked together at home, and on the battle field, to ensure the peace and Freedoms we enjoy today.

Christchurch and Sri Lanka have taught us that whether it be a rogue individual or organised maniacs ready to kill, we must be forever vigilant. How important our defence forces are to the protection of our country and we people.

Over the years I have had the privilege of presenting the wreath on behalf of Western Bay at the beautiful Memorial Park service, whilst other councillors lay wreaths at services from Waihi Beach to Maketu and everywhere in between.

After Memorial Park I attend the beautiful Pyes Pa service organised by the Navy as it is the cemetery where our service men and women are buried.

This year Elliots made sure it was even better – providing sound, even ANZAC biscuits.

However, we must stick to the advertised 10.30am start as there was great confusion this year as people went for 10.30am only to find it started at 12 noon. 10.30am it must be.
