Power has been restored to customers in the Hairini area of Tauranga early this morning after a blown insulator cut supply to a substation late last night.

Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh says the fault occurred at 10.10pm and initially affected 3500 customers.

'Full supply was restored by 1.42am with some customers being fed from a generator while repairs to a damaged cable are completed.”

Powerco contractors are continuing to investigate the cause of the outage.

According to the Powerco website, 56 properties are still without power in the Hairini area. It says the estimate restoration is not until 4pm this afternoon.
