Police surrounded a petrol station in Welcome Bay this evening after an incident took place there.

The Welcome Bay Caltex was closed to the public following an incident that happened late this evening, with many police cars making their way to the petrol station and fanning out into the surrounding area.

A SunLive reporter at the scene reported that the Caltex petrol station had been closed following the arrival of police.

"Multiple police units were there. They had closed the petrol station, and any public turning up to buy anything were turned away.

"About five police cars had gone past heading up Turret Rd towards Welcome Bay.

"Some police cars were at the station, and about five or so police cars were driving around the streets in Welcome Bay with lights flashing. The police dog unit was also out."
