Baldock smacks back

Larry Baldock, the Western Bay man considered the architect of the anti smacking referendum, is predicting an overwhelming ‘no' response when the final results are released next week.
Today, August 20, is the last day people can post their referendum ballots.
The referendum on, the Abolition Of Force As a Justification for Child Discipline Act, asked citizens ‘Should a smack as part of good parental correction be a criminal offence in New Zealand?'

The Western Bay's Larry Baldock is looking forward to the results of the referendum of the so called anti smacking law.

Provisional results will be known by 7pm today, August 21, and final results confirmed on Tuesday, August 25.
Larry also celebrates his birthday on Tuesday and says the results could be a nice birthday present.
'Polls are suggesting 80 per cent of people are going to vote ‘no' to the question,” says Larry.
Prime Minister John Key has expressed no desire to dump the law regardless of the result of the referendum.
'If any politician thinks we are going to go away and ignore this referendum, then they are kidding themselves,” says Larry.
He is preparing to send a letter to John Key outlining his proposals to amend the current law, which only requires the removal of a few clauses.
'If the majority of New Zealanders say ‘no', then we can quickly change the law under urgency in Parliament. But if we introduce a completely new Bill, then we have to go through a very lengthy process,” says Larry.
A recent SunLive poll found 75 per cent of respondents wanted to scrap the current law, 16 per cent wanted to keep it and 9 per cent wanted the law revised.
Larry says if government does not move on the results of the referendum, opponents of the law will continue to fight.
'We will protest as much as we can, but there will be elections in two years time and maybe people will feel aggrieved enough then to make the law change.”
