Tyres to smoke for a Sunday drifting battle

Carl Thompson has taken out his first ever Panhead Custom Ales Pole Position for Round 1 of the D1NZ Drifting Championship in Tauranga.

Micheal Thorley has also topped the scores in the Turbosmart Pro-Sport Drift Series in the qualifying rounds at the D1NZ Drifting Championship at Trustpower Baypark.

Both classes will be getting their main competition battles underway this afternoon.

The event, which has been dubbed the ‘Summer Smoke Out' is the opening round of a five-part drifting tour, where cars featuring up to 800+ horsepower will entertain crowds around the country.

Top ranked driver and two-time defending champion Cole Armstrong is excited to be competing in front of a home crowd this weekend, piloting his V Energy backed Nissan R34 Skyline.
