Motorists are being reminded of road closures in the city centre.

The closures will be in place from Friday morning, as celebrations for the Orange Day Parade take place.

Devonport Road from Elizabeth Street to the Strand, and the Strand from Devonport Road to McLean Street will be closed from 7am to 10.30am.

This is followed by a rolling road closure from 9.35am to 10.15am on Harington Street from The Strand East to Willow Street; Willow Street from Harington Street to Spring Street; Spring Street from Willow Street to Grey Street; Grey Street from Spring Street to Elizabeth Street and Elizabeth Street from Grey Street to Devonport Road.

The Strand Northern car park will also be closed from 7am to 11am to allow schools to park vehicles and buses.

More than 550 students will take to the streets to take part in this year's parade.

The Orange Day Parade celebrates primary and intermediate schools throughout Tauranga and Western Bay areas who have joined with travel safe teams and NZ Police undertaking activities such as travel smart and safe students, road patrols, traffic wardens and bus monitoring during the year.

Members of the public and local business are welcome to come out and support the students this Friday morning by cheering them on.

The parade will commence at 9.30am starting on The Strand next to the waka. Students will parade along Harington, Willow, Spring, Grey and Elizabeth Streets, back down Devonport Road to The Strand and will conclude at 10am at the Edgewater Fan on the waterfront.
