Tauranga's property market is continuing to slow, according to Quotable Value's Shayne Donovan-Grammer.
Latest QV figures show Tauranga's property values increased 0.1 per cent in the three months ending March, compared to the same period in 2009.
For this period comparison, the average sale price for the region decreased from $422,746 to $413,173, according to the QV figures.
Shayne expects Tauranga's slowing property market to persist for the time being.
"First home buyers are still the most active. They're looking to secure a home before interest rates increase later this year," says Shayne.
"Banks are also currently offering over 80 per cent lending, which makes a big difference to those trying to save deposits."
He says it seems the average household is astutely aware of current economic and market conditions, and appear very cautious about incurring significant debt to move into a more expensive home.
