Labour weekend heralds Western Bay of Plenty Cricket moving into full stride, with the B Grader's joining their Reserve Grade counterparts in action and senior secondary players joining the Colts Super Club competitions.

There has been an explosion in numbers in B Grade cricket, with the formation of the Papamoa Cricket Club, bringing extra teams to the division.

Previous B Grade champions Wanderers, have joined the new club and will play under the banner of Papamoa Wanderers. In addition two new Papamoa teams will make Gordon Spratt Reserve their home base.

On Saturday October 20, Papamoa Tangaroa will play Tauranga Boys College at Gordon Spratt four, with the second new Papamoa team playing Grasshoppers at nearby Alice Johnson Reserve.

The Papamoa Wanderers will resume hostilities with long-time rivals Albion on Fergusson four.

Mount Maunganui and the Greerton Sikh XI, will want to hold onto their unbeaten start to the WBOPCA Reserve Grade T20 competition.

The Greerton Sikh side, will play former Reserve Grade heavyweights Cadets in the early action in pool one, before sitting out the round four bye.

Mount Maunganui has a date with 2016 & 2017 McNaughton (Baywide) Trophy winners R&A Sangha in the late afternoon round.

A Greerton Sikh batsmen and a Mount Maunganui bowler, had a big hand in their respective sides remaining unbeaten last week and lead the Reserve batting and bowling stakes.

Lovely Sandhu belted a rare T20 century and finished the opening day with 180 runs to his name, in his Greerton side's scorebook. Nathan Walker who wears the Mount Maunganui Reserve strip with absolute pride took six wickets including a hat-trick in round two.

Colts Super Club competition will ramp up another level with the entrance of the senior secondary contenders.

Mount Maunganui are likely to have a good battle against BOP Lakeland at Blake Park. The Lakeland team is drawn from Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo and brings an added dimension of representative cricket to the Colts competitions.

Otumoetai Cadets and Greerton have enjoyed a forty year rivalry in senior men's cricket - with the rivalry between the two Tauranga City clubs sure to continue at Colts Super Club level, when the two senior secondary sides meet at Mitchell Park.

The Junior Secondary Colts take a weeks break, while a further Cadets verses Greerton encounter will take place in the solitary primary division game to be played during the long weekend.
