Bella Vista work continues, says council

Tauranga City Council continues in its effort in working towards a resolution for those who are affected by the Bella Vista managed subdivision on Lakes Boulevard and Aneta Way.

In a statement released today, Tauranga City Council says settlement has been agreed for one of the 21 homes and ongoing work continues to achieve settlement for the remaining.

"Meanwhile the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) visited Tauranga as part of a technical investigation/review into the policies and procedures surrounding Council's regulatory role with a view to understanding how and why the Bella Vista subdivision failed.

"This independent review will be conducted by senior MBIE officials and overseen by Paul Hobbs, Acting Manager (Building System Assurance), MBIE."

In tandem, Council has initiated an employment enquiry to understand in detail the roles, responsibility and accountability of staff and management involved in the regulatory function of Council.

"This work, while employment related, will be independently overseen by recently retired Chief Employment Court Judge, Graeme Colgan.

"It is anticipated that these enquiries will be completed by the end of the year."

How much more will the council spend of our money in trying to wriggle out of any responsibility for the fiasco caused by them in the first place!! Why not look to where a lot of the problem has stemmed from - the original developer who used obviously questionable 'fill'. Too close to home ? That same developer owns 'half the town'!!

1 out of 21 is not much progress. They do right to hold off. Fight for justice.

The ONE purchase was theft

The sole purchase was more 'theft' and was a bare site and a very 'desperate' property owner immeasurably impacted by the actions of the City Council.
