Llama and sheep mauled to death in Pyes Pa

'There was lots of blood.”

This is how Pyes Pa resident Bobbie Anderson described the scene of an animal mauling on the weekend.

Two llamas and four sheep were mauled to death in the early hours of Sunday morning.

She says the animals were mauled by dogs.

'There are a few others that aren't looking so good.

'I think people need to be aware of what happened. These would have been local dogs. Someone would have noticed their dog coming home covered in blood.”

Police were notified at the time of the attack, along with council animal officer.

'The attacked happened on my neighbours' properties. We live near Barkes Corner.

'It's been quite traumatic.”

A Tauranga City Council communications advisor confirmed to SunLive that animal services were notified.

"An animal services officer visited the property yesterday.

"The investigation is ongoing."

People with information about the attack are urged to either report it to council or police.
