Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, in collaboration with the Department of Conservation, will be hosting its first Sustainability Market as part of Conservation Week 2018.

The event will feature a range of different products, services and initiatives from local companies and organisations that promote sustainable living.

Stalls will showcase and sell everything from electric bikes, seedlings and honey, to portable gardens and beeswax traps.

Toi Ohomai hospitality students will also be preparing delicious free soup with food rescued by Good Neighbour.

'Conservation has become much more than pulling up your sleeves – it's about sharing your knowledge and continuing practices with as much vigour as those that came before you. That is what we are hoping to encourage with our Conservation Week Efforts,” says Nataalia Lunson, Ranger at DOC and Toi Ohomai Environmental Management graduate.

The market will be followed by a free guest lecture by Director of Wildlife Management Associates and Wildlife Biologist, Cam Speedy.

Cam is a passionate and inspiring speakers on the complexities of wildlife issues unique to New Zealand. He has more than 30 years' experience in the game, pest and threatened species as well as ecosystem management.

'We are very excitied to partner with DOC for the market, and we hope that it will help our community realise that protecting the environment doesn't need to be hard. We're looking forward to supporting the many local companies, individuals and organisation actively innovating and advocating for sustainability,” says Lisa Denmead, Academic staff member – Marine and Environmental Management at Toi Ohomai.
