25 years of Grey Power

After 25 years, Grey Power's Doug Wilson believes the organisation is still a relevant and influential force in today's political landscape.
This week Tauranga members of the organisation celebrate 25 years since the organisation's inception.
Doug is Grey Power's events and entertainment officer and believes the organisation started in Tauranga.

'It's a big milestone. It started under the name Tauranga National Superannuitants Association. The last time Grey Power walked in mass was in 1994 and it's about time we did it again,” says Doug.

Tauranga Grey Power members will celebrate the anniversary at a luncheon at the RSA in Greerton this Sunday.
About 91 people are expected to attend, including Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby, Western Bay Mayor Ross Paterson, EBOP chairman John Cronin, Tauranga MP Simon Bridges and Rotorua MP Todd McClay.
Doug says the organisation has achieved many accomplishments over the years but there are always new goals to pursue.
'Grey Power today has slipped a little bit. I still say that Grey Power needs a combined effort across the country to form a silent march.
It's needed to let the people get rid of their frustrations. Everyone wants something to happen,” says Doug.
