Labour's list MP working in Tauranga is undecided if she will stand as the party's candidate in the city at the next election.
Jacinda Ardern, currently the youngest MP in Parliament, embraced the opportunity to work in Tauranga when she gained her spot in the House of Representatives after last year's election.
Jacinda Ardern, Labour list MP for Tauranga.
She says Labour's choice of candidate in Tauranga rests with party members in the local electorate.
'I'm enjoying being here as a list MP but I think there's lots of things to consider about who would be best suited here.
'There are other options that I've been asked to consider,” says Jacinda.
She lives in Auckland and says there may be electorates to contest in that area.
In the year Jacinda has been in Parliament, she says the honour of serving New Zealanders in Wellington has been her biggest high.
'There was quite a period of change but it's given me a chance to reflect that I'm very lucky to be there.
It was difficult to watch the departure of some members of the Labour team, such as Helen and Michael. That was the end of an era but they did it in a style that was keeping in the way they led the Labour Party,” says Jacinda.
Every Labour MP was given the opportunity to assume a portfolio after the last election and Jacinda has taken the responsibility of youth affairs and youth justice.
She is confident Phil Goff will lead the Labour Party into the next election, despite his languishing performance in preferred Prime Minister polls.
'He is our leader and he has the skills to take us into the next election.
We can't spend all our time focusing on polls. At the moment, he is still doing the right things and we don't want him to change those things,” says Jacinda.
