A fire that broke out near Baypark on Friday night has been confirmed as a rubbish dump fire.
The fire broke out at the Te Maunga Transfer Station around 9.40pm on Friday August 24.
A Northern Fire communications spokesperson says at this stage the cause of the fire is still unknown.
A caller at the time to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says that there were flames and the smoke could be seen as you travelled along State Highway 29a, towards Baypark.
