Auckland central MP Nikki Kaye might have broken her fibula bone but that didn't mean breaking her commitments in Tauranga.
The National Party MP was booked to give a speech in front of members of the Tauranga business community at a Mount Maunganui cafe.
Tauranga MP Simon Bridges amd Auckland Central MP Nikki Kaye.
Her visit was planned before she broke her fibula bone in a cycling accident in Auckland on Sunday.
Twenty nine year old Nikki, one of the youngest MPs in Parliament, was training for a cycling race against Labour's Trevor Mallard at the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge on November 28.
'I was expecting Nikki to bail-out of coming to Tauranga, but she's a real trooper,” says Simon.
Nikki says a car came very close to her when she was cycling, her foot came out of the pedal and she twisted her leg quite badly.
'The speech has been in the diary for quite a while so I wanted to make sure I could make it down there,” says Nikki.
She says it would have been extremely short notice to cancel her Tauranga speech one day before.
'I've been in a lot of pain but ultimately I thought I can't say ‘no'.
I have a lot of mates who travel to Tauranga and the Mount on holiday. It's a place where a lot of professionals settle,” says Nikki.
