Re-Orientation Week, or Re O'Week, has kicked off in style for Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, as hundreds gathered at the Windermere campus to take part in the mid-year festivities.

On-campus activities include hot dog, toasted sandwich and s'more stalls, photo booths, soccer zorbs, campus tours, a mechanical bull, live music and a knitting demonstration by the knitting ninjas group.

From Wednesday onwards there will also be events outside of the region in Tokoroa, Taupo, Whakatane and Kawarau.

'This year's Re O'Week is a winter theme so all the activities are based around that, which is why there will be knitted scarves, s'mores and hot chocolates,” says events manager Jessica Barnett.

During ‘O' Week students also spend time learning about the facilities available to assist them (like study and IT support) as well as undertaking fun activities to help them engage with campus life.

It's also an opportunity to connect with services like Family Planning, register to vote and learn about banking services.

'The most important thing for us is because we are an institute of technology we get people starting at different times throughout the year- we have a massive intake first and second semester,” says Jessica.

'So it's making sure that everyone gets a fair student experience and also when people are going to new classes and new cohorts it's a way to get everyone comfortable meeting new people whether that's classmates, tutors or supports people.”
