What’s On? Escape Festival

Good morning, SunLive readers, and say hello to June, aka Winter 2018.

It's also Queen's Birthday Weekend, which is a great opportunity to get away.

If you've decided to sit tight in Tauranga, though, don't worry, because there are still things to keep you occupied. The weather today is forecast to be rain, with heavy falls likely, and a high of 17 degrees.

Thus, being indoors is best – and what better place to be indoors than at Baycourt, where the Escape Festival is taking place.

The little festival features discussions with all manner of creatives. Today at 4pm, the ‘Creative Sparks' session will feature five panellists choosing an object from Tauranga's museum collection to ‘talk to', a conversation that sparked the work you're about to experience.

For many years resident in a storage facility, items in the collection range from pre-European artefacts to the anchor of the MV Rena. Featuring: Children's author and drama teacher Angie Belcher; journalist and holder of a BA in English Literature, David Tauranga; singer-songwriter Marion Arts; Tauranga Moana artist Que Bidois; and physicist and musician Dr Simon Taylor.

The session is introduced by Tauranga Museum curator Fiona Kean. Tickets are $20 plus booking fee.

For more of the Escape Festival's events, visit the Baycourt website.
