Council will upgrade internal areas of the Cargo Shed in Tauranga's central city in time for the 2018/2019 summer season.

When works are completed, the shed on Dive Crescent will be available for bookings to hold events and activities, right on the waterfront.

'The upgrade focuses on providing a healthy and safe environment for users of the venue,” says a statement from Tauranga City Council.

'To achieve this, internal areas such as the fire alarm system, the electrical system as well as kitchen and bathroom areas will be improved, supported by general maintenance and repairs.

'This will allow our community to use this facility for a greater range of activities.”
The upgrade will commence in July 2018 and bookings for the Cargo Shed will resume when the works are completed.

'Bookings can be enquired for durations of a minimum of one day to a maximum of one month,” says the council.

Back in 2016, it was announced that the Cargo Shed was to close as a result of 'council changes”.

At the time, council said planned extension of the stabilisation works of the seawall along Dive Crescent will create disruption for people in the Cargo Shed.
