Tauranga-based Labour list MP Jan Tinetti is encouraging local animal welfare groups to have their say at an animal welfare hui to be held in Auckland next month.

The all-day hui has been called for by the Associate Minister of Agriculture Meka Whaitiri, who is the government's dedicated animal welfare minister.

'The minister has said she is keen to hear the views and priorities of the country's animal advocates on a wide range of issues, everything from the care of our pigs to welfare issues around our pets, she wants everything to be on the table for discussion,” says Jan.

The hui will also provide animal advocates with a chance to hear from the government's spokespeople on animal welfare.

'I know there are many organisations and vets here in Tauranga doing great work in our community to help our animals and I know there is probably a lot they could offer this hui.

"That's why I am encouraging them to take part.”

Anyone who would like to take part in this hui on June 8 can contact animaladvocacyhui@mpi.govt.nz

Why?

Why insert a maori word that most don't understand or care for when we have a perfectly good English word? Are you trying to get a message across or force an unwanted language on us? Do you want people to read this or give up before the first sentence?
