The weather forecast today is for some cloud in the morning and night, otherwise fine, with westerlies.

It's a two-clothing layer day today with a high of 18 and an overnight low of 11 degrees. Humidity is 92 per cent.

High tide is at 8.40am and low tide is at 2.50pm. There's a sea swell of .3m with a sea temperature of 18 degrees. Sunset tonight is at 5.10pm.

If you're going fishing the next best fish bite time is between 5 and 8pm.

In NZ history on this day in 1937, New Zealand nurses were detained on their way to the Spanish Civil War. In 1966 was the death of Maori King Koroki.

He was the fifth head of the Kingitanga movement that was founded in 1858 in response to European colonisation.

In world history on this day in 1802 Britain declared war on France. In 1804 Napoleon Bonaparte became the Emperor of France.

In 1931 Japanese pilot Seiji Yoshihara crashed his plane in the Pacific Ocean while trying to be the first to cross the ocean nonstop. He was picked up seven hours later by a passing ship.

In 1951 the United Nations moved its headquarters to New York City. In 1974 India became the sixth nation to explode an atomic bomb.
