A heavy rain warning has been issued for the Western Bay of Plenty and Coromandel.

The MetService is forecasting heavy rain for both regions tomorrow.

'A front is forecast to move over the upper North Island on Saturday, preceded by heavy rain and easterly gales.

'The heaviest falls are expected about the Coromandel Peninsula and western Bay of Plenty.”

Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.

Area: Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty west of Whakatane

Valid: 24 hours from 1pm Saturday to 1pm Sunday

Forecast: Rain is expected to become heavy on Saturday and accumulations are expected to reach 100 to 120mm. Rainfall rates may reach 20mm an hour.
