The weather forecast today is for long fine spells with low southwesterly breezes.

In NZ history on this day in 1983 Prince William met our 'buzzy bee'. Among the highlights of the April 1983 royal tour were photographs of the Prince and Princess of Wales' infant son, Prince William, playing with New Zealand's iconic ‘buzzy bee' toy.

In world history on this day in 1348 the first English order of knighthood was founded. One hundred and twenty-two years ago today in 1896 motion pictures premiered in New York City.

In 1915 the ACA became the National Advisory Council on Aeronautics (NACA), the forerunner of NASA. In 1971 the Soviet Union launched Soyuz 10, becoming the first mission to the Salyut 1 space station.

Today is the birthday of Shirley Temple Black, child actress, and later a U.S. ambassador.

She once said "There's nothing like real love. Nothing." She was born in 1928. It's also the birthday of Jim Fixx.

Born in 1932, he was a runner and writer who popularized running as a form of exercise in the 1970s.
