What’s On? Women’s Triathlon

Training for last year’s Women’s Triathlon. Photo: Facebook.

Well, it's Sunday again. The eighth Sunday of the year, in fact.

Think back to how you were feeling on that first Sunday of 2018… still feel the same?

It's amazing how much can change in a few weeks. But what never changes is the fact that SunLive is here to point you in the right direction for today's events.

The MetService is once again allowing for some changeable weather, forecasting for ‘cloudy periods and a few showers'. Today's high is expected to be 25, with a pleasant overnight low of 16 degrees.

The big event on today is the 2018 Generation Homes Women's Triathlon, being held at Pilot Bay from 8.30am.

A record 800 women will be taking part, after the cap was increased from 700 maximum participants last year due to soaring interest. Spectators are more than welcome to come along and show their support, however road closures will be in place. Salisbury Ave will be closed from 5.30am to 1pm between Victoria Road and Prince Ave, while The Mall, Adams Ave, and Marine Parade up to Ocean Beach Road will be closed between 6.30am and 12pm.

Elsewhere in the city we have a classic car show at The Elms from 10am to 2.30pm, with entry only a gold coin donation.

The Southern Cross Sea Scouts are also holding an open day at the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club down on Sulphur Point from 1pm to 3pm. Children aged 11-14 are encouraged to come down and find out about the activities the sea scouts do, including canoeing, sailing, rowing, power boating and offshore sailing.
