Maori singing sensations Maimoa will perform at the Mataatua Kapa Haka Festival this weekend.

Maimoa knocked Justin Bieber off the iTunes NZ Music Charts last year and have played at a number of sold out music festivals across New Zealand, most recently playing to a sold out crowd at New Zealand's largest reggae festival, One Love.

The group is made up of 12 young Māori artists 'with an aspiration to inspire future generations.'

Chairman of Ngati Awa Ki Rangitaiki Organising Committee, Charlie Elliott says the excitement is brewing and the addition of Maimoa to the lineup is welcoming.

'We are looking forward to having Maimoa join us. They will bring a different audience to the event.”

The Mataatua Kapa Haka Festival will take place over two-days attracting nearly 15,000 people, featuring some of the best Kapa Haka teams from across the Mataatua Rohe, competing for their chance to represent Mataatua at next year's Te Matatini Competition in Wellington.

'This is a festival for everyone, a true celebration of Mataatua, with food, arts and crafts stalls, free amusement rides and activities for the Tamariki, plus all the haka” says Charlie.

The kapa haka festival takes place February 17-18 at Te Teko racecourse.
