Tree falls on car during storm

A tree falling on a car in Devonport Road, power surges and some surface flooding are being reported following the bad weather we had overnight.

Yesterday, the MetService was predicted around 100mm to accumulate in the region as the remnants of ex-tropical cyclong Fehi crossed New Zealand.

Strong winds battered Tauranga overnight and huge deluge of rain fell around 12am.

A tree on Devonport Road was also uprooted and fell on a car parked near it.

A reporter who went to the scene says police were called to help divert traffic around the tree.

"An aborist was also quick to the scene to clear the tree."

There is no indication as to whether or not anyone was in the car when the tree came down.

Most of the severe weather has moved out of the region now, with the MetService forecasting a mostly sunny morning with southwesterly winds.

This may entice the TCC to remove the rest of them.I feel sorry for the owner of the car.But think of it more parking spaces-less leaves and shite up and down Devonport road. The retailers will be happy

a long time ago that all those trees need taking out, they take up to much space, hope TCC have good INSURANCE COVER for this, you can see that the stump is ROTTEN, for saftey sake ,REMOVE them all, this could have turned into something more terrible, like a person standing there and the outcome would be so different, be interesting too see what TCCsay about this, they will all be down there with their Flouro jackets and note pad clipboards going oh har,and get CON sultants to have a look too, this is just the beginning, anyway Sunlive, at least you got a reporter there for this story, keep them coming and to make more comments on new ones when applicable,Thankyou No1,10-4 out. phew.

Looking at the photo, should the car have been parked there in the first place, if not it would not have been in the way when the tree fell. Just saying.

Without trees the CBD would be even more ugly and unwelcoming - then even less people for your 'precious' retailers. This tree has fallen over because its root system was compromised by insufficient room to grow. Feel sorry for the living thing - the tree, not the car!

If the car had been parked

in the right place instead of where it was, the tree would have missed it.
