A large scale power outage is being reported in Tauranga and the wider Western Bay of Plenty.

Homes in Brookfield, Otumoetai, Bellevue, Matua, Bethlehem, Te Puna and Katikati are reported to have been affected by the outage.

Powerco is reporting 22439 homes are affected by the outage in Bethlehem, Matua and Otumoetai. A further 385 homes in Te Puna and 3769 homes in Katikati are affected.

Messages to SunLive also report power cuts in Omokoroa.

Power is expected to be restored to the Katikati, Bethlehem, Matua and Otumoetai homes by 3.20am and to the Te Puna homes by 6.20am.
