How many crashes have we had on this roundabout in the last couple of months involving trucks? One fatality on a motor bike I seem to remember. SLOW DOWN and look right . Not hard.

Crappa

That roundabout is a bad one. Often things like this are usually pointed at as speed being the cause. The roading on this roundabout is off camber and very easy to get off side and come a crappa. Working in that area, i have withnessed two trucks nearly roll, one was up on one one side of wheels bit thankfully came back down as it was full of live stock, and it was not going fast. All it takes is a weight shift and its all over. This roundabout needs fixing, this happens too often here.

golly gosh something had to give

This had to happen sooner or later, the CAMBER on that corner is off set and slopes away, its a terrible thing to happen and it has, NZTA will say there is nothing wrong,(well NZTA IT IS WRONG) remamber when this opened there was a truck rolling over (nearly) everyday, it was horrible going around there with a 40 foot box of kiwi fruit and had to take it easy, its a trap for young players, next one (rollover) will be at the rndabout on the right turn to Tepuke AND next one along going to parton rd,its way off camber by a long way,it should camber to the island not away,i hope it does not happen,(BUT WATCH THIS SPACE). hope the driver is ok,gosh another trailer down, be interesting to know what happened there, i know but wont print it,anyway SUNLIVE is a WINNER,Thankyou 10-4 out. phe

NZTA Scores Again.

Yep another NZTA stuff up. Their designers/engineers(not) SHOULD BE MADE TO DRIVE TRUCKS FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE BEING LET LOOSE WITH A PENCIL. This is a bit like old houses designed by poms. Got the sun the wrong way round. These roundabouts are gravity defying and NZTA is putting them everywhere. Time someone high up (maybe Mr Twyford) told them to fix their designs.

You make sense old trucker. Not my field of expertise. There has simply been to many roll overs on this round about it cant be all bad drivers fault 100% of the time. 10 or 12 trucks have tipped there at least. time to fix it

Both have it totally RIGHT !! The CAMBER not only on that corner but on most of the NEW roundabouts in Tauranga are ALL the same. The CAMBERS are ALL wrong for not only large B-trains, but for ALL large trucks, and even "big" SUV's. If the big B-trains slow down to a crawl, before entering the roundabouts, they cause a sudden "everybody STOP" effect that "tailbacks" on ALL the entrances to the roundabouts, while they cross the two / three lanes around the roundabout. That's the other problem - roundabouts in NZ are nothing more than than an OBSTRUCTION in the middle of a four road intersection. If NZTA wants to install roundabouts, they should go to Europe / USA / etc/etc - and LEARN what a real "roundabout" is !!!!

Prove otherwise

If the camber is wrong we need clarification from the designers that they are right. We need them to comment, before someone is killed.

Not so quick

Another roll and more calls for road to be dug up. This roundabout sees hundreds of trucks through each week. So that's many thousands since it was put there. How many have rolled? The % is minuscule so let's justs call it what it is - bad driving. Gosh, you truckies want every piece of road dug up and every roundabout removed just so you trundle through at excess speed. If they did dig it up and change the slope what would happen? I'll tell you, you'd just go faster and push it to the limit and rolls would continue. Not the sharpest tools in the box. Slow down. Easy.

How do you explain the massive amount of rollovers on this particular roundabout? You will find that this particular roundabout is different from all the others around. So different in fact it has special signs put up on it showing it is a rollover risk. I have not seen theese signs on any other roundabout. Maybe they should fix the problem rather than just put up easily missed signs... The other roundabout that comes to mind is the new Paengaroa one., that one has similar problems. I have car drivers on my dashcam going completly the wrong way around it.....

And?

Okay - perhaps the Design is wrong - most likely is. But if everyone knows that why aren't trucks slowing down? You would think that truck drivers are aware of the roads they drive on. I have seen several trucks turned over at the bottom of the new eastern link as well - it all comes down to truckies driving too fast in all the wrong places. Not unlike their fellow passenger car drivers. Everyone moans about the roads - just strange that only some people have accidents on them - the majority don't. Perhaps it has something to do with the drivers? And with general attitude?By the way - this wasn't coal - it was Landscape Mulch.
