Students cook for elderly visitors

Otumoetai College food technology students have been evaluated by their senior peers after cooking lunch for them at the school.

Publicity officer Erin Armstrong says the luncheon with senior citizen residents at Althorp Village is the completion of a term-long project.

Otumoetai College students discuss their food projects with residents of Althorp Village.

'Students had to come up with an idea of what they wanted to cook and then present the idea to the Althorp residents.”

Food technology teacher Lauren Atkin says students were given a brief and had to make food following it and from research gathered from talking to the residents.

'We decided to do finger foods, because a sit down lunch would be too much work.”
She says it's good to see the students mingling with older people.

'They have been talking about how different school is now and how in their day it used to be home education and now its food technology.”

The students will gain feedback from their guests about their dish and use it to complete their portfolio for the year.
