A search and rescue operation is underway in the Kaimai Ranges to locate a 21-year-old man who went missing while out hunting yesterday.

The Hamilton man became separated from his hunting companion at approximately 2pm on Saturday, October 1. The pair had entered the bush from Thompson's Track near Katikati.

A 21-year-old man is missing in the Kaimai Ranges.

Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders says Police are in contact with the man by mobile phone but do not have a location for him.

'We are in contact with him but his whereabouts is unknown at this time.”

A land search and rescue operation is underway this morning with 15 search and rescue members being transported into the field with the assistance of the Bay of Plenty Four Wheel Drive Club.

Sergeant Saunders says Police are keen to locate him as soon as possible as a bad weather front is moving into the area.

'He is not suitably equipped for the weather. He has some protective clothing with him.”
