Tauranga City Council has issued $1,067,538 worth of parking infringement notices over the past 12 months.
The most common infringements are failing to pay for parking, displaying an expired license, parking over a time limit, and expired parking payment.
More infringements are issued for paid parking offences rather than overstaying time limits, with Devonport Road and Grey Street being the highest ticketed areas.
Earlier this year, TCC launched the PayMyPark app in city, a paperless system that requires users to simply enter their registration plate number, rather than printing out a parking slip to put on their dashboard.
TCC bylaws & parking team leader Stuart Goodman says because the app can be used at a number of cities across New Zealand, it is not possible to identify how many people use the app in Tauranga.
'Since it was launched in Tauranga, $354,966.53 has been processed on PayMyPark.”
There are currently 985 paid on-street parks and 766 paid off-street parks available for use in the CBD.
The council was unable to say how many outstanding fines there are, or the largest number of fines issued to a single user.
'Unpaid fines are processed by the courts,” says Stuart. 'While if a fine is paid within 28 days, the owner's details are not required to be kept.”
Parking time restrictions apply between the hours of 8am and 6pm on all days (Monday to Sunday), other than public holidays, unless otherwise specified on the sign.
"Some of our signs state ‘at all times'. Therefore, outside of the above hours, those restricted time zones can be enforced 24/7," says Stuart.
"Our parking officers actively patrol Monday to Sunday, so in most instances you'll only get ticketed between 8am and 6pm. But, if we receive a complaint outside of these hours, it can be investigated further."

New Nest Egg for TCC?

This is horrendous, and for such measly misdemeanours. I have been caught out with the new machines, because I couldn't understand the instructions and I am fairly well up with tech. Now that TCC has this nest egg, what is planned for its use? I am flabbergasted

I recall it being free after 3pm....has this changed? Also...there was going to be free wi fi in the CBD....has this not happened? Free wi fi would eliminate the need for coins or credit card payments as you can use a parking app.
