Two New Zealand soccer representatives are in Tauranga teaching young girls soccer skills.
Sophie Stewart-Hobbs and Olivia Chance have spent the last two days teaching girls how to play the game and encourage them to join a summer team.
Olivia Stewart-Hobbs shows primary school girls tricks of the trade at Bethlehem College.
Sport Bay of Plenty coordinator Peter Smith says they are running fun festivals to try and get more girls involved in the sport.
'We have been to Selwyn Ridge, Gate Pa and Maungatapu School hosting these fun festivals.
'We are going back to Gate Pa next week and have been told by the principal that we already have 111 girls interested, so we are going to have to scatter them over a period of time.”
He says it's good to have Sophie and Olivia at the games because it shows that young girls can achieve big things.
'Olivia is part of the Under-20 squad and is trying to get into the Olympic squad for London.
'Sophie is trying to get into the same squad as Olivia and so it kind of following in her footsteps, which is a good thing to show the kids.”
