Tauranga surfboard artist Daryn McBride says history and knowledge are being passed on with the donation of a surfboard to Mount Maunganui College.
The college approached Daryn about a piece of work for the stairwell of its new resource room and this surfboard is what he came up with.

'It was an honour to be asked by the school and to be able to utilise my influences –
Ted has inspired me so much,” says Daryn.
Ted Davidson is a legend in the surfing world.
Daryn says he's a surfboard shaping pioneer and the board he made for the college has been made in his honour.
'It's good to be able to pass the history to the kids and the knowledge of the past, present and future.”
He says the picture depicted on the board is the back of a blowhole with the Coromandel on the horizon.
'I started making these boards three years ago. The first one I did was for the police charity action and another one is hanging in the Koru Lounge at Auckland Airport.
'I am working on another one for the Auckland Airport, which is made of solid timber. The idea is that it's made of wood from the Waikato that is sustainable.
'I want to have it finished and up in time for the Rugby World Cup traffic,” says Daryn.
