Kronic ban moving quickly

The government's banning of Kronic and other synthetic drugs, a total of 43 legal ‘highs', is a move happening quickly and with support from across the house.

Associate Minister of Health Peter Dunne announced the ban on Monday, saying Cabinet had approved the necessary amendments to the Misuse of Drugs Act Amendment Bill.

This Bill is before the house and it is expected to be passed into law by the end of the week – a move Tauranga MP Simon Bridges says will be well received in the Bay of Plenty.

'I have received a huge amount of emails and phone calls from Tauranga people who wanted action and who believed we were dilly dallying,” says Simon.

'It was also one where people would approach me in the street about it, so I made those views clearly known in Wellington to Peter Dunne and also to other National Party MPs.”

Simon says passing the Bill into law by the end of the week is also what people want and is in itself a measure to stop the use of these synthetic drugs.

'The ban will move very quickly and the reason for that is when you make a decision to do something like this you need to move at speed or else people will start to stockpile or find ways to get around the law before you implement it.”

The fast action on this Bill is receiving support from across the house with Labour leader Phil Goff this morning declaring his support for it.

The law, expected to be passed this week, is a temporary measure intended to get legal ‘highs' off shop shelves within a week of its passing.

The government will then continue its consideration of these products and in about a year's time will determine whether to classify them as a controlled drug, made a restricted substance, or remain unregulated.

'What the law, which is going to be passed in the next day or two, effectively does is puts us into a holding pattern, but a more permanent solution will be found next year,” says Simon.

If they are so worried about peoples health then they should be banning alchohol - but they are NOT - they are worried about VOTES. Immoral, unprincipled Politicians are even MORE detrimental to our health and DEVASTATING to individualand property rights - Ban THEM before they do MORE irreversible damage immediately.

honestly

Listen up. I am an ex addict and drugs I understand well... Used to be nick named Dr Pillbottle because I studied the hell out of it so to know whats good and whats not... Anyway. In as much as I dont believe for one minuter that synthetic pot is good for consumation... I think that a stomach pump is better than a full on OD leading to serious rehabilitation or death. I mean at the end of the day if we would it not be far better to decriminalise pot itself a drug that is class C not A, or B... and a drug that is by way less harmful, better managed and even less harmful then you so loved freakin ALCOHOL which is certainly costing the country ship loads of bleedin money...

If anything needs banning
