The minimum age to test for a learner driver licence increases to 16-years-of-age from Monday, August 1.
The increase is in part a response to groups suggesting increasing the driving age would improve road safety.
Driver education is a key part of improving road safety and SunLive visited Red Square to see if people there thought introducing compulsory driver training into school curricula was a good idea?
I think it is quite good because you need to know a lot about driving when you are younger.
so that when you are on the road you know what to do.

Good idea. Makes them learn proper skills rather than in the backyard.
Glen Tuck, Tauranga
Great idea, I think that the driving levels in New Zealand are unsafe for young people so the more education they can have the better.
Katie Clark, Tauranga
I think it should be because they need a lot more training, often parents don't think about that side
or don't have time.
Trixie-May Moss, Tauranga
Doesn't worry me, I actually did some at Katikati College.
Grant Townsend, Tauranga
Could be a good idea.

Road use training complex

I live in hope that one day we will come to recognise the potential for the Baypark complex to become an 'all purpose' ROAD USE BASIC & ADVANCED TRAINING FACILITY, totally self funding. The facility has enough surface types and space to service all modes of transportation (bikes, cars, mobility scooters, trucks, trailers, motor-homes, boat towing, etc), safely, off the roads. The facility is perfectly located. All weather conditions could be replicated.
Great Idea

It is a life skill that kids need to learn (if they choose to), I think its a great idea. This will take pressure off parents to teach there kids
Another cop-out for parents!

Schools already have too much on their plates and kids are leaving school without decent maths, spelling etc skills...it's about time that some parents faced up to their responsibilities and devoted some time to teaching their kids some life skills instead of leaving it up to others!
