Snow in the Kaimais has eased with little sign of the snow now visible.

A caller to SunLive on the 0800 SUNLIVE news tip line this morning reported he saw the snow nearly down to the farmland level near Wright Road.

The New Zealand MetService is advising there is a snow warning in place for high country in the central North Island, but the Kaimais does not feature in this, despite forecast cold, windy conditions there.

Its warning is in place for high country from Taupo to Taihape including inland Wanganui and Manawatu, Hawke's Bay and southern Gisborne.
