Competing in the Hamilton section of the 48 Hour Film Festival, a group of Year 9 Otumoetai College students are the winners of the ‘best teen team award' in their region.
See Team Astro Studio's 48 Hour Film Festival entry called ‘Dirty Laundry' below.
The competition involved movie makers having just 48 hours to make a film with an allocated genre and a compulsory prop and character, which were not identified until the start of the 48 hour period.
This was May 20-22 and in the case of the Otumoetai College students' group, called Team Astro Studios, their genre was crime, the prop was ‘bent wire' and the character was Bobby Young, who was an ex-bully.
The film also had to include the line ‘what have you got' and it had to end on a freeze frame.
The movie the team came up with was called `Dirty Laundry` and was about a murder.

The team, made up by Jack O'Brien, Leyton Blackler, Jonathan Iremonger and Daniel Wilkinson, was the second youngest in the country and was the youngest to win an award.
By winning the regional award for ‘best teen team', they earned a spot in the national final of that category, but did not win this.
Judging for the national award was undertaken by leading New Zealand film maker Sir Peter Jackson.
The team members were excited by how their work was watched by Peter.
The four boys all got together last year at Otumoetai Intermediate whilst doing robotics and are now looking at what other competitions they can enter.
