Tauranga stop for Boobs on Bikes

Boobs on Bikes is coming to Tauranga in response to requests from the public to bring the erotic display to the Bay.

Organiser, New Zealand porn tycoon Steve Crow, says they always get requests to bring Boobs on Bikes to various places and one of the more common requests is for a visit to Tauranga and Mount Maunganui.

A scene from Boobs on Bikes in Auckland, 2010.

'After lots of requests to bring Boobs on Bikes to Tauranga – since we are Auckland-based and have to get to and from Tauranga – we've decided to do a good ol' Tiki tour.

'So the Boobs on Bikes Tiki Tour has been born.”
The Boobs on Bikes Tiki Tour is travelling to Paeroa, Waihi, Katikati, Tauranga, Matamata, Cambridge and Hamilton before returning to Auckland on Thursday, August 4.

The annual parade, previously only in Auckland, is part of the freedom of expression celebrations in conjunction with the Erotica Lifestyles Expo.

Despite the many requests for Boobs on Bikes to come to Tauranga, the parade has some strong opposition.

Tauranga Salvation Army officer Major Stephen Crump says it's ironic to be discussing Boobs on Bikes in the same week as a high profile person has been sacked because of ‘loose' comments about women.

'If these ‘Boobs' – or are they women – think that this has more to do with their personal freedom of expression than it does to feed man's appetite for ‘tease and taste', then they are really being taken for a ride…and it's not on bikes.

'If this event was a game, then I would have to score it 1-0 to the men,” says Stephen.

'Unless of course the mission of these women was to provide a ‘tease and taste' experience, then of course the score would be one all.”

Bay of Plenty Police were not available for comment on plans for the parade when The Weekend Sun when to print, as they were dealing with the Tsunami warning and were too busy to respond.

The parade starts at the Fresh Fish Market on Dive Crescent, travels along The Strand to Devonport Road, before turning onto Elizabeth Street and then Cameron Road, finishing at Second Avenue.

Hope the feminist brigade climbs into this pack of idiots but probably wouldn't have the balls to criticise them.By the way isn't Thursday a work day, so what probably take it as a sick day for time off work.

Pay for it

Posted on 09-07-2011 10:24 | By Openknee8ted

If Steve Crow wants to advertise he should pay for it like anyone else. Put a toll on Thursday for $500 per bike using the strand and the money can go to the Waipuna Hospice. What a sad excuse for a porn tycoon, it's about time he brought a smoking jacket and had a reality TV program ... Maybe "Stone the Crow".

BOOBS FOR EVERYONE

Great stuff, makes a change from the usual "BOOBS" in Tauranga CBD. I bet that therer will be a POINTY HEAD noses firmly affixed to the top fllor windows that day. No doubt a trail of dribble will flow there again to.

Boobs for everyone

Posted on 09-07-2011 13:18 | By gadstuff

Yep, good stuff alright. Nothing like a bit of TITillation to get the blood flowing on a cold winters day. It should get all the wowsers, prudes & ugly feminists up in arms over a bit of harmless fun. I bet the young women involved enjoy it as well, otherwise they wouldn't be there on the bikes.

What is the law

Posted on 09-07-2011 14:04 | By vincent

Can someone answer for me. If a group of women walked around town, went to night clubs, did their shopping or anywhere for that matter with no tops on, is that legal? If not - how can the Boobs on Bikes be legal. What is to stop women coming to town everyday with no tops on?? If people are so keen to see the Boobs on Bikes could if not be done at Baypark or somewhere away from the kids and people who don't want to see it & would have to remove themselves from a place normally for clothed people ie: in town.

different rules for some

Posted on 09-07-2011 14:35 | By grahamwood

As Vincent said... if a lady walked around town topless I am sure that in due course she would be arrested for "indecent exposure" yet Steve Crowe can somehow bypass this. I do think standards required by law should be the same for everyone, irrespective of the morality issues that arise in many people's eyes. It would be interesting for the wives and girlfriends to observe the parade and see which men "perve" at the porn girls? Might be some lean pickings at home for some if they are "sprung"!! There may be a lot of hoodies and dark glasses on the menfolk?

Double Standards

Posted on 09-07-2011 16:10 | By bigted

Arrest the girls I say. If an individual female road down the main street topless she WILL be arrested. Mass boycott and no media coverage in this ridiculous, pointless parade.

Boobs again?

Posted on 09-07-2011 16:42 | By socantor

When will females realize that in our Western society, naked tits are accepted as both a male turn-on and porn? This also applies to those stupid breast feeders who insist on doing so in public. How can a man switch off just because tits appear with a baby attached? Women can't complain at being ogled due to natural reactions. That is how Steve Crow makes his money!

Requests from who?

Posted on 09-07-2011 18:13 | By sojourner

Who requested this? No one asked me. I did not request this? This is completely sick and demeaning to women.

Tauranga people are the biggest boobs

Posted on 09-07-2011 20:06 | By The Tomahawk Kid

I am not surprised at the small-minded reaction to boobs on bikes by the pathetic residents of Tauranga. If they were as vociferous at protecting individual and property rights as they are complaining about what other people do with their time this would be a much better place to live, but they have become so pre-occupied with minding other peoples business they have lost sight of the real enemy - the thieves of their rights. There are already laws in place to protect the public from indecent exposure - all the police have to do is do their job properly. It should be the job of government and police to protect its citizens from the use of force and fraud upon each other, and not impose those things upon us. It should not be their job to prevent us from victimless crime. Boobs on bikes on public property impose by force, nudity upon the public, therefore those people should be arrested. However, I like looking at boobs. I will go to watch, and be entertained and will not be offended. If you do not wish to be offended I suggest you dont go for a look, and refrain from complaining about what other people do with their lives, and demand those you have already paid to do a job - do it!

I am sure the NZ Police will have several suitable paddy wagons lined up for "processing" and discharge. i hope that they are being reading the user manuals for the bikes .... and pick the right bike.

I suggest no one asked

Posted on 09-07-2011 21:01 | By Murray.Guy

The old, "...in response to a community request / demand ...blah, blah" is the oldest rational in the book when asked to justify an action and no credible answer is available. Reality is, this bloke and his sheep get their kicks out of offending as many folk as they can, sticking their fingers up at society, at anything that resembles respect for woman, and I suggest the family unit. To ban Mr Crow and his commercial porn parade from our public space secures a win win. Those in opposition are not offended and those in support can go back to their magazines and mirrors.

TITS IN A TANGLE

Posted on 10-07-2011 09:41 | By Hebegeebies

Would not imagine it would be the greatest sight and one boob looks the same as others and one bike the same as another. If they come to Tauranga will they be called town or city bikes.Who in invited them ? could have been the fun section suckers of TCC as Council appear to underwrite every offbeat activity.

Publicity stunt and its working

Posted on 10-07-2011 10:53 | By Inconvenient Truth

The comments so far show that this stunt is probably having the effect the publicity seekers wanted. Every day we are potentially exposed to things we don't like or think are offensive. Watching tv, reading the paper, movies and shows are all full of stuff that could offend. Both language used and erotic scenes. The idea is not to get involved or watch it. I find many politicians offensive and hypocritical. I loathe drugs and alcohol abuse and drink driving offenders (extremely dangerous) but I can't stop them. I won't be going to boobs on bikes and if it wasn't for all this free publicity a lot others wouldn't even know about it. Interesting though that sometimes the people who take the moral high ground on this sort of titillation and express the most outrage, and want to ban everything, are often the ones who have the secret issues. There are plenty of stories about anti-gay campaigners who turn out to be gay themselves and people who rage against prostitution being legalised only to be caught with one. In NZ the Capill story would have to be a classic when it comes to moral outrage hypocrisy in my opinion. So go back to work, forget about this publicity seeking story and it'll probably never happen, and if it does, don't be there.

Discrimination is uncool

Posted on 10-07-2011 14:45 | By stevecrow

@bigted. "arrest the women" - what about the topless men Ted? You obviously support the belief that men should have greater freedoms than women. The very reason I started Boobs On Bikes in the first place was to because I heard about a couple of women bring arrested for flashing their breasts in public. The NZ Bill of Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex (amongst other things) so it seems obvious to me that if, as the politicos like to tell us, we have full equality for women in NZ then a woman is equally entitled to appear topless in public anywhere man can. Boobs On Bikes was created to prove this very point. Auckland City took me to court to try and stop it, they lost and had to pay my costs. The courts upheld my belief that it is not illegal for a woman to appear topless in public in NZ. End of argument. Equal rights. Whether or not a woman choses to exercise that right is up to her and only her, as it should be. @Inconvenient Truth. Thank you for your comments. We think alike. To those of you that don't want to be offended by topless men and women, exercise your rights and don't look. To those that want to watch, or even better, participate. See you there. Oh, and yes, we were asked to bring Boobs On Bikes to Tauranga. We have now been asked to add the Mount .....Steve Crow

It's the grubby mind, not the body ..

Posted on 10-07-2011 15:52 | By Murray.Guy

For this chap there is absolutely nothing offensive (far from it) in regard the human form, in private or in public. The offensive component of this stunt is that the 'treasured female human form' should be so abused and used by such a grubby mindset in the pursuit of self gratification and commercial gain. One cell phone text from a Mount Maunganui toilet block does not constitute an invitation from the community to denigrate their public space. Tauranga City has just invested $41 million in a sports and exhibition facility - go and have your exhibit there!

What does the law say

Posted on 10-07-2011 16:03 | By The Tomahawk Kid

@stevecrow: Is it not law at the moment that a woman showing her bared breast in public is counted as indecent exposure? (serious question). As I say - I am not against this event, but what is the law at present? A man was recently in trouble for nude jogging in a public place (cant recall if he was fined or not). It is not against the law for a man to be topless - only women. The law is an ASS as we all know, but in our immoral world where the majority get to vote away the rights of the minority, thats how it is until people stop giving their permission for it to continue.

lol

Posted on 10-07-2011 21:14 | By dgk

I found the proposed route to be interesting. The way it passes very close to two local brothels, near cnr Devonport & Elizabeth and the one near cnr Elizabeth and Durham. They will probably need to hire extra staff to deal with the surge in demand from these deeply offended people....

The law says ..,,,

Posted on 10-07-2011 21:41 | By stevecrow

@The Tomahawk Kid - the law says men and women have EQUAL rights in NZ. The law does not say that women cannot go topless in public. @Murray.guy " grubby mindset"? What is grubby about women and men exercising their rights? Undoubtedly some in crowds that attend will have " grubby" thoughts but to blame the actions of the women involved as grubby is the same as saying the victim of a rape is partially responsible for the crime because of what she wore. What unadulterated crap! As to the analogy with the naked male jogger, while I personally don't feel nudity should be unlawful anywhere since it is perfectly natural the law does not permit the display of genitals in public - the Boobs On Bikes participants do not ride around with their penises and vaginas on display, only their chests. There's a thought - maybe Vaginas On Vespas ..,,

Not offended but!!!

Posted on 10-07-2011 21:56 | By Sarahlou

I think you will find that most arnt offended by the human form infact i myself embrace it, however I am offended that you are using our town Steve to promote your porn business in the name of freedom and liberation for women. What a load of bollocks!! This is self gratification pure and simple. Should you choose to host this event say at Baypark stadium for example would this not be a fair compromise? Probably not as it would seem you prefer to grandstand with no regard to the thoughts and feelings of others. Are you prepared to name those you claim have asked you to bring it to our streets? Put your money where your mouth is or is it fictional? Numbers must be down at Erotica. Why else would you bother bringing your show down here. Not surprised really. I went two years ago and the whole thing was ho hum

There just tits!

Posted on 11-07-2011 08:58 | By TraciR

C'mon there just boobs, these women choose to do this they are not being exploited, and of course there will be people who will take sexual pleasure out of this that is the nature of society, not the organisers fault but the fault of the individual dirty minded person. If you dont wanna see them dont look, and as for "what about the kids" why should you be ashamed of your children viewing the natural human anatomy depending on the age of the child, breasts do not equate as anything sexual to them that is someething they are taught later on in life. To them its just skin. There is a differance to being un willingly exposed to say naked joggers and an event like this, with this you have warning and the choice to not participate with naked joggers in public places you were not given a choice it was forced upon you. Dont condemn these people on their choices instead why not excercise your right of choice and close your eyes if you find it that offensive.

Just keeping it real !

Posted on 11-07-2011 09:44 | By murphy

Steve Crow believes these types of events don't encourage sexual violence even though time and time again experts in sexual violence clearly state otherwise. Steve naturally protects his promotional tour that highlights his business investment and rightly so as any other business person would. So I encourage those people that strongly oppose this tour to throw eggs at these women parading themselves around in this manner and maybe those that oppose these tours in other parts of New Zealand will catch on. Then what will Steve Crow say to that? His tours don't encourage egg violence; there are just a few rotten eggs that ruin it for the rest of us, oh pleeeease!!! Throw eggs I say. Boobs on bikes are targeted at men and clearly are largely attended by men and to be fair a (small) number of women also attend, so why is there no penises on scooters for women and men that want a perve? Because there's a ******** head organizing this tour and there's only room for one ********!!

What a fantastic event

Posted on 11-07-2011 13:48 | By andyl

What a fantatic event to bring to Tauranga - nothing wrong with it - all those negative views are just a case of small minded people that contribute towards a small minded little old Tauranga

Stone the Crows

Posted on 11-07-2011 13:58 | By Sarahlou

Im sorry you know who.I couldnt resist reposting this from your page.Classic!!! In the United States it is legal to hunt crows in all states usually from around August to the end of March and anytime if they are causing a nuisance or health hazard. There is no bag limit when taken during the "crow hunting season." Accor...ding to the US Code of Federal Regulations, crows may be taken without a permit in certain circumstances. Depredation order for crows states that a Federal permit is not required to control CROWS ... when concentrated in such numbers and manner as to constitute a health hazard or other nuisance. Perhaps we could get a bylaw passed quickly which will enable us to hunt crows in Tauranga in August ;-)

The law says . . .

Posted on 11-07-2011 14:15 | By The Tomahawk Kid

Thanks for your reply Steve - The law does not say that it is illegal for women to go topless in public. Steve is correct that the law states that men and women have equal rights in NZ but as I say - the law is an ASS. It says that I own my own body, but then it states that it is illegal to end my own life, or to ingest certain substances that the law disagrees with.

Who Authorised This?

Posted on 11-07-2011 16:09 | By gummers

After comments from the Mayor and Councilor, saying that they are dead against this parade. Surely someone in Council has signed this off as allowed if it involves closing the street!! Therefore petition the Council and stop this degradation of women. P.S - I'm a Christian male.

BABES ON BOOBS !!

Posted on 11-07-2011 16:15 | By murphy

All to often certain (idiots) people in our modern society, frown upon and complain about mothers breast feeding in public. So if Steve Crow can have boobs on bikes and get away with it, then there should be no issues with breast feeding mothers. Therefore leave the breast feeding mothers alone and let there be, BABES ON BOOBS !!

Violence OK, Boobs not?

Posted on 12-07-2011 19:08 | By stevecrow

@sarahlou. You have an interesting perspective - you advocate (via innuendo) killing me but oppose the public display on topless male and female forms.
