The Otumoetai College special Olympic soccer team is back in Tauranga victorious from its trip to Auckland for the North Island Regional Championships.

Raymond Jones and Simon King show their soccer skills in front of their winning team mates: Morgan Penny, AJ Renata, Simon King, Luke Moulds, Kerehi Maxwell and coaches Andre Hansen and Libby Martin.

The team won all three of its games in its section at the event and was presented with the gold medal.

Teams from Whakatane through to Whangarei made up the 25 entries in the competition.

The team members now have a nervous wait as they wait to hear from the National Special Olympics body to see if there are going to be North Island or national team trials.
