Bills botchup

Thanks Bill, for ignoring middle New Zealand. Kiwis would love to help Christchurch directly, and your budget could have helped them to do that through a short term tax surcharge. Sadly, all it is delivering is more debt based on over-enthusiastic projections of growth from the Treasury (who made the "Oooops" statement about their optimism yesterday). Please Bill, retraction, review and realism are the order of the day.

Fairly predictable: rein in spending, but say nothing about tax cuts to the wealthy. We must all tighten our belts for the national good, but sell and privatise those assets that all Kiwis own. Cut back on services you deserve to receive in return for paying tax . Nothing about making our economy smarter and more sustainable, no future-proofing. More roading expenditure instead of public transport... bla bla bla. Stale economics.

Bullsh!tician on sales tour

Yeah, right! Q&A by "invited guests" only? I don't think that Bill is too thick to be unaware of the big picture of doom developing around the globe. But what I can't understand is that he and his ilk pretend that nothing is happening, all is honky-dory and that we'll even have GROWTH!!! All that will grow is the dept with which we finance the Status Quo (what is it? 500 million of new debt each week now?). These bullsh!ticians are in power because they are not prepared to tell the populace that they (and other parties before them) have for decades lulled the people into entitlements and cushy public jobs and that this lifestyle has now become unsustainable because of exponential growth. NO, NOT productive growth but exponential compound LIABILITY GROWTH. . They are still carrying on cajoling their party cart in typical political fashion. We're paying through our nose the banksters who happily lend them the money to finance their election carrots. New Zealand population will be totally unprepared to this tsunami and the 'administrators' who could elucidate the masses about what will happen, are still busy with 'expanding' their political legacy. The only legacy for ALL of them will be that one day people will ask: "YOU should have been able to foresee this; why haven't you warned us?"

I agree with all the others that question the openness and honesty of our politicians. You can't keep hiding $300 million a week plus the unsustainable 'fabricated' Waitangi Claims and the associated growth industry created by the pseudos.Just have the balls to deal with these aberrations and anomalies is all NZers can ask .

A Nothingness Budget-Guess Why ?

INTEREST RATES OCR / INVESTMENTS / MORTGAGES /SHARES Ever since the Reserve Bank Governor recently lowered the official cash rate by .50 points people have become increasingly concerned with the effect of this course of action will have on the economy which to some degree resulted from Government pressure following the Christchurch earthquake. The result has been that the Banks have slashed deposit and term investment rates by up to 1% not the .50 points OCR reduction, resulting in many Bank depositors receiving 20% less income on what were already very low rates of return. The clear understanding is the National Government has been expounding the virtues of saving and this will do nothing to encourage this. On the flipside of the coin, mortgage rates have been reduced by around ½% encouraging more people to buy houses, resulting in heightened interest in the residential housing market which all know, caused NZ much of the angst in the first place. Is this what the National Government wants? I would be interested in Simon Bridges and other local National MPs comments . The projected 5% inflation rate for the current year even allowing 2% for increased GST is nothing to be joyous about either. Prominent accountants and sharebrokers see the same problems arising !!.On the love affair with shares, the penchant for investment in the sharemarket, either directly or through managed funds does nothing for the Company share price. It is solely between individual investors - not 1 cent goes to the Company R & D, etc. Only if one is the original shareholder providing share capital or venture capital is it of any significance. It is a myth, perpetuated by NSX etc. and does not help the economy at all. It is private wealth creation process and the reverse side of the coin is it can be a very harrowing experience if the Company share price ever falls out of bed. So when you are directed away from property investments or term deposits/ investments and shares are recommended, give it some very serious thought. These sort of fixations result in a ZILCH Budget.

Bill is juggling the finances when there is nothing there to play with, history will not help him there and it will DEFINITELY not help us taxpayers.

Like on the deck of the Titanic on evening ... they want capital for business and savings for retirement, but in end result the wheeler dealers win again where they all get a "clip the ticket" percentage of the $$ collected in, money whipping around the room from one trough to another trough does not create "investment capital" it actually takes someone with an idea and a will to get it done, find some money and go to it.

Capital for business is flowing nowadays into balance sheets of the banks. They use it for their own good. Investment in business, ha, they rather invest it in financial instruments and consolidation. As for the savings for retirement…are you joking? Do you think there will be much left once TSHTF? Your trough analogy is spot on.

I think you are both on the same page sir. Just look at the profits of all the banks, they are record breaking stuff. The profits all go to Aussie, who is silly here?
