Members of the Bay of Plenty branch of the United Nations Association are meeting to hear from Rotorua MP Todd McClay talk about ‘how New Zealand can, as a small country amongst giants, not only survive, but prosper'.
Rotorua MP Todd McClay is the guest speaker at a United Nations Association meeting.
Todd is a member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and prior to his election to parliament he worked in a political capacity internationally, in the European Parliament as chief of staff to the leader of the British Conservatives and for the Irish Fianna Fail Party.
In 2000 he was appointed the Cook Islands and Niue Ambassador to the European Union and remains the youngest appointee to the rank of Ambassador to the EU.
Todd will discuss how New Zealand navigates its way through the international power structures and collective organisations, including the United Nations, to ensure the most productive role.
The meeting is tonight, Thursday, June 2 at the Bongard Centre on Cameron Road starting at 7.30pm. Entry is by gold coin donation and interested people are asked to register with Gray Southon on 07 578 7119 or by email: [email protected]

Especially to hear how NZ can not only fit but prosper. By the look of the empty businesses and buildings around the city, we haven't been prospering for a few years.
FIT WHERE ?

before you bother about us. We have enough muffins here now 'running' our City. Most of us know how to run a successful business and how the country could prosper. The real problem is finding politicians with the balls to make it happen. Regardless if you like Brash or Banks one thing they do have is balls Todd. They at least have the courage to stand up and walk the talk. I would put Hone in with them as well in that regard. Go give Len Brown a hand. Seems he could do with one. Citizens Monitoring Council
Globalisation not the answer

Todd has impeccable credentials, but no amount of navigating in Geneva, Brussels and New York will lead us up the path to environmental security in New Zealand. Yes, we need an international presence, but we also need an unblinkered approach to our own back yard, which Todd and this government are not delivering.
The EU ... and ...

Like not a good example there is a few smaller countries like Portugal, Greece, Italy and others seem to be heading for "implosion" like is that the level and angle of advice that we want to look at? Guess has benefits in that we know what to avoid next perhaps.

Todd gave and excellent address. He has had considerable International experience. Europe and the South Pacific. It is however still a changing world. Todd openly responded to questions.
