Brash makes Tauranga speech

Newly elected Act Party leader Don Brash is speaking in Tauranga tonight in a bid to boost the party's support in the city.

The party only attracted 1086 votes in Tauranga at the last election, compared to over 20,000 votes for the National Party.

Act Party leader Don Brash.

Former Act Party candidate Ron Scott, who has decided not to stand this year, received 217 votes, with Simon Bridges gaining over 21,000 votes.

Don will speak at Bureta Park Motor Inn's Redwood Room at 7pm tonight, May 30.

He told SunLive his speech is designed to boost the party's support in the region.

'We didn't get very high support (in Tauranga) last time, but I'm hoping we will get a lot more this election,” says Don.

'Who knows what the final result will be, but I think we have very similar polices to ones that I ran with the National Party back in 2005 and they were pretty popular in Tauranga.”

Don's speech will be focused on his plan to ‘move New Zealand forward'.

'I'm frustrated by the fact that New Zealand has been drifting back relative to Australia for the last 20 or 30 years and the government has done nothing to reverse that drift and I think it's high time we began to climb relative to Australia.”

Now that Ron Scott no longer wants The Act Party nomination, the party will have to find another candidate.

Hopefully his elderly audience can stay away for the whole speech.

A man so desperate to get in the public eye he will stab his former mate in the back to get there.
